In my guide on SEO for E-commerce! I mentioned how important it was to be able to track the keywords that users type in the search bar within the website .
Especially in e-commerce ! but also in blogs or company websites ! users perform specific searches to find products! articles or services that they don’t immediately discover! or that they simply call differently.
By tracking the queries your visitors use! you can gain insights into how they navigate your site and discover word associations you may never have imagined.
With this short guide I will explain how to track with Google Analytics the queries entered by visitors in the internal search bar of a site and how to exploit the generated data to your advantage.
Internal Search with WordPress and Prestashop CMS
If you use a CMS! such as Prestashop or phone number list WordPress ! just type a query in the site search bar and hit enter.
The system will return a URL with a query string composed of a parameter “ q ” or “ s ” + the keyword .
This means that manual verification! before setting up tracking! is essential to understand the search parameter used! because it can often change depending on the CMS used.
Setting up tracking from the Google Analytics panel
At this point! after having verified the generated query! access the Google Analytics panel associated with the site’s tracking code .
Enter the view you want to track! click the number of units or pairs used on ADMINISTRATION ! third column! VIEW > VIEW SETTINGS.
Next! at the bottom of the page! activate SITE SEARCH MONITORING by switching from OFF! the default setting! to ON .
The SEARCH PARAMETER field will open b2c fax and in the space you will have to enter the letter q or s depending on the query generated in the verification phase.
You can also check the box on “Remove search parameters from URLs” and configure tracking by internal category. For further information! here is the official Google guide .
